Welcome to Better Off Gluten!
I lost far too much quality of life never knowing there was a better way. The more I learned about the wide spread effects of gluten, the more passionate I became about all of the people that could be helped with this knowledge. I would listen to people lament over their unexplained ailments that seemingly nothing could help. I desperately wanted them to know there was a possibility of hope for them. A potential fix that didn't cost anything or have negative side effects or require any strange hocus pocus. Just a change in what you eat! We will ingest any number of pills and medication in order to combat what ails us, so why would something we eat potentially not be adversely affecting us?!
I realize this concept seems bizarre to many. Admittedly, I thought "those gluten-free people" were a little nuts... until I became one of them. I am a huge skeptic and intensely research things that truly interest me. Nothing in the world will make you leave no stone unturned like trying to help your child. And as you will read in my story, that is exactly what motivated my intense study into the effects of gluten. The absence of concrete medical evidence leads to much of the skepticism. But just because definitive research is not yet available doesn't mean people need to continue to suffer.
I wanted to create a place where people could learn the possible benefits of eliminating gluten from their diet, how to determine if they are sensitive to gluten, and share the knowledge that I wish I had known when I started on this journey. I seek to inspire, encourage & challenge others through one small change I made in what I eat that changed my life in ways I never dreamed possible!
I have no desire to rip the sandwiches from the hands of everyone I come in contact with. By all means, if you are in great health with no chronic pain or seemingly unexplainable ailments, then certainly go on eating and enjoying every bit of gluten that comes your way! BUT if you've been put through the wringer with conventional medicine, tried everything you think is possible and are still looking for a solution... I suggest you give it a try.
